Creating a Permanent Connection

A permanent connection requires that one Beyond FTP server be responsible for making the connection and the second Beyond FTP server simply wait for the call.  You configure the server that is responsible for making the call as follows:

1.     Either create a new address book entry or edit an existing entry corresponding to the server that will be called.

2.     Check the box labeled Always On.  This tells Beyond FTP that the address is permanent and should be kept connected at all times.

3.     Click OK to save the information.

4.     Restart Beyond FTP Services.

Remember that only one server should be configured to make calls.   You must tell the receiving server to allocate a connection for the incoming permanent call by modifying either the address book or the Console configuration.  Modify the address book as follows

1.     Either create a new address book entry or edit an existing entry corresponding to the server that will be calling.

2.     Delete the entire address entry and check the box labeled Always On.  This tells Beyond FTP that the address is permanent and should be kept listening at all times.

3.     Click OK to save the information.

4.     Restart Beyond FTP Services.

In the event that you require Beyond FTP to listen for permanent connections without adding a listening entry to the address book, you must modify the Console configuration as follows:

1.     Right click the system tray  icon and select Beyond FTP Console.

2.     Configure Beyond FTP by choosing the  button on the Console toolbar.

3.     Enter the number of permanent connections that should be kept open for incoming calls.

4.     Click OK.

5.     Restart Beyond FTP Services.

Note that this second approach simply adds additional connections that are not associated with a particular server.  This allows you to leave your original server address information in the phone book.
