Always On

Reference:        Edit Beyond FTP Address Book Entry.

This field applies only to Beyond FTP connections.  It is used to indicate that This Computer and the remote server should be connected at all times.  One side of this connection must be configured to call and the other side must be configured to listen.  The calling side must include an IP Address or URL value.  The listening side must leave the IP Address blank.

For example, if Boston and Detroit are to be permanently connected, each would have the Always On field checked and the respective IP Address fields might be:

At Boston:

Server Detroit with IP address www.detroit.com

At Detroit

Server Boston with a blank IP Address

Always On connections are configured when Beyond FTP initializes.  This implies that Beyond FTP must be restarted to implement any changes in the address book.  You may also specify additional connections for incoming calls in the Beyond FTP Console.  These allow you to receive calls without configuring a listening server in the Address Book.  Always On connections take place on a port that is 1 greater than the service port defined in the Console program.  The default value is 35092.
