IP Address or DNS Name

Edit Beyond FTP Address Book Entry.

A required field. This is the TCP/IP address of the remote server, and can be either a “dotted-quad” (e.g. 111.111.111.111) or a DNS host name (e.g. pserve.aptnet.com).  The value is used when retrieving the remote server name with the Get Server Name button.  Beyond FTP employs a switched connection to contact the remote server.

The address may also be used to specify whether this connection is routed via an intermediate server, supports the SSL protocol , or is permanent.  Permanent connections are automatically maintained, and should be reserved for those servers that are always available.  In addition, each connection may be directed to use our encryption services

You can override the TCP Service Port by appending the desired value to the end of the address following a colon “:”.  For example, the APTServe entry might use the address:

                  pserve.aptnet.com:35091

This allows you to modify the port for internal use and still contact other installations outside of your private network.
