Reference: Edit Beyond FTP Address Book Entry.
A routed connection address is a variant of the Server Address Field. In this case, an intermediate Beyond FTP server is required to reach the destination. This might occur in a situation where local clients are attached to a server that is, in turn, attached to the WAN. Reaching a client requires calling the server and routing through it to the client station.
You specify a routed address by prefixing the name of the intermediate Beyond FTP server with an ampersand “&” character (e.g. &APTServe). The intermediate server must be included in the address book. When the connection is required, Beyond FTP makes a call to the intermediate server (e.g. APTServe). The intermediate server is then charged with getting the message to the destination, which may include additional intermediate steps.
