Troubleshooting Bad File Displays

Bad file displays can occur when FTP servers do not return information in a format that the Auto Detect option can interpret.  First distinguish between bad displays and no display.  We assume that you can connect to the remote FTP server.  If not, see Troubleshooting FTP Client Connections.

If there are no directories or files displayed when you click the “C-drive”, open the FTP Server Status window.

1.     Select the View menu item.

2.     Select FTP Server Status.

3.     Retry the connection.

If the status window indicates that directory information cannot be returned, try changing the PASV option.

1.     Edit the FTP server address book entry.

2.     Select Advanced.

3.     Clear PASV Mode.

4.     Click OK.

5.     Click OK.

If there is still no display, try setting the Use Relative Paths check box.  This will prevent Beyond FTP from performing compound path commands.

1.     Edit the FTP server address book entry.

2.     Select Advanced.

3.     Check Use relative paths.

4.     Click OK.

5.     Click OK.

If there is still no display, check the Trace box on the FTP Server Status window, save the results and send them to support@beyondftp.com.

If you are getting a display, but it has incorrect information, you must create a template for Beyond FTP to use when interpreting file list information.   See Adding an FTP Server Template.
